I have been on the latest bone treatment called ..ACTONEL ..
One small tablet a week, after 12 months my latest bone scan shows my bone density is getting back to normal, I've never had a broken bone in my life. Maybe all the walking I did when younger and all the milk I use to drink too.
MILK OH NO NOT MILK???
I understand some of us could be prone to milk problems causing the Crohn's. Some of us will get Crohn's some will not. The latest in England is to heat treat milk higher so as to kill the possible bacteria that sets us off. I think they have upped it from 8 degrees to 16 degrees.
Anyhow whatever the scale milk should be better for us now. So especially the ladies take your calcium and remember ACTONEL and if you have had an OP you should maybe having B12 injections, if you are staggering it may be too late.

If you have had a OP it is never to late to get on B12 injections I haven't been on them for going on 12 yrs and just started back on them. Today was my first injection. I am proof that if you are staggering it is not to late. I have only lost my balance once today so far and hopefully tomorrow will be better.

FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE HAD A BOWELL RESECTION INVOLVING THE TERMINAL ILEIUM, IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT THIS IS THE AREA FOR THE MOST OF OUR B-12 RECEPTERS. THIS TYPE OF CRONES RELATED SURGERY CAN IMPARE OUR ABLITY TO RECIEVE B-12 UNLESS GIVEN THRU AN INJECTION, IF THIS SURGERY IS ONE YOU HAVE HAD CONSULT WITH YOU DR ABOUT YOUR B-12 NEEDS.

I too have peripheral neuropathy and this is the first time I have heard it might be caused by lack of B12! I am on the injections now, since 2005, but my neuropathy started in 1995, before my Crohn's was diagnosed. Now I wonder if having Crohn's and not knowing it, was the cause of the neuropathy! Amazing if so. I am not staggering, not yet, but I can lose my balance easily because I can't feel the ground beneath my feet. Ain't life grand!
Glad you are getting your bone density back, Georgy! That is excellent news. Do keep us informed.

Before everyone goes running to the doctor. Calcium is available in more than just milk. In fact there is more calcium in 1.75 oz's (363 gm) of cheese than in an 8 oz glass of milk (319 gm). Calcium can be found in many other foodssome to include: yohgart, beans, almond, spinch & ice cream.
Along with this you should also look at Vitimin D. These vitimins go hand in hand when you are dealing thining bones.
Prednisone is more dangerous for this than surgery.....it is capable no matter how much calcium or Vit. D some people take. Since my last flare up I was placed on these vitimins even though I was drinking Lactaded milk on a daily basis.
As for B12......I have never had problems with this till I had my resection. I am now on B12 shots monthly. Though I never had any problems with it prior.
